Prejudice
Those of Japanese or Chinese ancestry were sometimes seen as inferior. Laws forced the Chinese and Japanese to live in segregated areas of large cities.
Pearl Harbor Attack
Japan and United States failed to settle a dispute about natural resources in the Pacific. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, a United States military installation, on December 7, 1941. This surprise attack drew the United States into World War II and ignited a hatred for the Japanese. Fear grew that there would be another surprise attack.
