Executive order 9066
President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order #9066. The order said that military zones could be established and groups removed from those areas. As a result, anyone of Japanese ancestry along the American West coast had to report to relocation centers. The military believed it was needed because of the fear that Japanese Americans might aid Japan in its war efforts through sabotage or spying. The order was signed February 19, 1942.
Executive Order also resulted in the arrest of over 5,300 German and Italian residents, some who were American citizens.
